The Siberian Federal District is one of the eight federal districts of Russia, laying entirely within the continent of Asia. It covers almost a third of the landmass of Russia. Siberia was occupied by different groups of nomads such as the Yenets, the Nenets, the Huns, the Iranian Scythians and the Turkic Uyghurs. The Mongols conquered a large part of this area early in the 13th century.
